Delta Hiring for Transportation Jobs in Atlanta

Delta Airlines says it has about 1,000 new openings across the U.S. and will be hiring for transportation jobs in Atlanta.

Positions include pilots, flight attendants, and other carrier jobs. Reservation agents and customer service agents are also in demand.

The Atlanta-based airline said it expects about 65,000 applicants to respond to the 1,000 openings due to the lackluster economy. Delta’s CEO said the response has already been overwhelming, and Delta has become inundated with applications.

The jobs will be stationed in Atlanta and in Delta’s other airport hubs around the U.S. Delta has said they offered the positions to internal employees before soliciting them to outside workers. The positions will assist planes that are flying at capacity and to help other hubs when planes are diverted from Atlanta do to bad weather.

Currently Delta is the world’s largest carrier and employs about 80,000 people. According to Bloomberg.com, the carrier may report second- quarter net income of $510 million on July 19 during their earnings call.

U.S. airlines employed 18,756 fewer workers in May than a year earlier, according to the federal Bureau of Transportation Statistics.
