According to a new survey, retailers are optimistic about hiring for retail jobs in Atlanta.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Retail Salesperson is the largest occupation in the United States as of May 2010 making up 3.3% of total U.S. employment with over 4 million workers. The health of the retail industry is vital to the U.S. economy. Knowing this, eHire sought to gain more information in order to better understand the current state of the retail industry as it heads into 2012.

Toy company to hire for Atlanta retail jobs

Toys”R”Us said this week it is going on a huge hiring spree and adding thousands of Atlanta retail jobs.

The toy retailer also said it will be adding thousands of jobs nationwide for the holiday season in anticipation of the big rush that comes after Thanksgiving and goes through Christmas.

Toys”R”Us will be hiring about 40,000 people nationwide.

That number is in line with previous years, when the company hired between 35,000 and 45,000 seasonal workers. Throughout the coming months, the company will continue to assess its staffing needs and add more employees, as necessary.

Each year, there are opportunities for high performing seasonal employees to take on extended roles, and in the past, many have obtained full-time positions at the company. In fact, 10 percent of the 2010 holiday workforce is currently employed at Toys”R”Us. Substantial long-term growth opportunities exist for hardworking seasonal employees at Toys”R”Us.

Hiring for positions at Toys”R”Us begins this week and continues through November. The majority of employees will be hired to staff Toys”R”Us stores across the country, where they will become knowledgeable, toy-trained associates, assisting gift-givers in delivering Christmas magic. Traffic in Toys”R”Us stores peaks in the weeks leading up to Christmas, and the company’s expanded holiday workforce plays an integral part in providing an enjoyable in-store experience for shoppers during this time.

In addition, employment opportunities will be available at the company’s 10 distribution centers, including the newest facility in McCarran, NV, which supports its growing e-commerce business.

The move should boost Vegas retail jobs as well.

As it does each year, Toys”R”Us will provide existing employees the opportunity to take on additional hours throughout the holiday season at their current site or at an alternate Toys”R”Us location. During the non-holiday period, Toys”R”Us employs approximately 45,000 associates in the U.S.

Aaron’s hiring for retail jobs in Atlanta

Aaron’s has announced big plans for hiring for retail jobs in Atlanta.

Aaron’s, a lease-to-own retailer specializing in the sales and lease ownership of residential furniture, consumer electronics, home appliances and accessories, last week closed their 2011 National Managers Meeting in Orlando. The three-day event focused on Aaron’s goal of eclipsing the $3 billion mark in revenues from its Company-operated and franchised stores and included announcements on hiring and growth plans. More than 2,000 Aaron’s associates in attendance also donated 4,500 hours and $200,000 in product and service to the Orlando community. (more…)

Home Depot to hire hundreds for retail jobs in Atlanta

Home Depot has announced it is hiring for hundreds of retail jobs in Atlanta and other locations nationwide.

It is bringing in thousands of people to prepare for their Spring Black Friday event.

Like the traditional Black Friday that occurs the day after Thanksgiving to unofficially start the holiday shopping season, The Home Depot’s Spring Black Friday marks the start of home improvement’s busiest shopping season. In preparation, the Company will hire and train new seasonal associates in every market during the month of February and March. Additionally, The Home Depot will be adding net new permanent full-time and part-time positions to its stores for the second year in a row.

Atlanta Retail Jobs Cut with Home Depot

Another company is planning to cut hundreds of Atlanta retail jobs.

The Home Depot Inc. recently announced that it would cut 7,000 jobs across the nation and close 34 expo stores. Of the jobs to be cut, 462 are in the Atlanta area at the company’s headquarters in Vinings and the facility in Cumberland. The layoffs will affect 324 salaried workers and 138 hourly workers at both facilities, according to an article by the Atlanta Business Chronicle.

None of the employees to lose their jobs beginning April 1 are members of unions or able to partake in collective bargaining agreements. The company also plans to cut 75 positions at Home Depot Bath and Remodeling Inc. in Kennesaw.

Atlanta Retail Jobs Cut with Macy’s

A large department store’s closing will result in the loss of almost 1,000 Atlanta retail jobs.

Macy’s recently announced its plan to close the company’s regional headquarters in Atlanta, a move that will cut 850 jobs. The company plans to cut 7,000 across the country, or about 4 percent of its total workforce. The eliminated jobs in Atlanta will include everything from administrative support to senior executives, according to an article by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

However, the company does plan to open two district offices in Atlanta, which will employ about 50 workers. That means a fraction of the displaced retail workers could end up finding jobs in other parts of the company.

Atlanta Retail Jobs Available with Kohl’s

More Atlanta retail jobs will soon be available as a large department store expands.

Kohl’s is planning to open two new stores, in Canton and Milton, a move expected to create 300,000 jobs in Atlanta. The company says it’s looking to hire associates for customer service, department service, cash register operation, early morning stocking, truck unloading, housekeeping and evening signage and pricing updates.

Kohl’s is hosting a job fair Jan. 11 to 15 at The Best Western – Mountain Villa Inn and Suites in Canton and The Hilton Garden Inn – Atlanta North Point in Milton. Full- and part-time positions are available, according to an article by the Atlanta Business Chronicle. Kohl’s, based in Menomonee Falls, Wis., operates 1,004 stores in 48 states, including 21 stores in the Atlanta area.
