Atlanta Manufacturing Jobs Created by KMC Group
One company is planning to create new Atlanta manufacturing jobs.
According to an article by the Atlanta Business Chronicle, KMC Group recently announced that it will open its first U.S. plant in Atlanta, a move that will create 60 jobs and invest $5 million into the economy. KMC Group, which is based in Korea, makes ball valves for use in gas lines, oil fields, chemical plants and offshore platforms.
“More than 40 percent of new companies coming to Atlanta are international,” Hans Gant, senior vice president of economic development for the Metro Atlanta Chamber, said in the article. “We have the talent, we have the access to the marketplace through our airport and we are strengthening Atlanta’s position as a hub for global companies. There are currently more than 2,000 international businesses in metro Atlanta, and that number continues to grow with companies like KMC.”
The new jobs might be able to inject some life into Atlanta’s declining manufacturing industry. The Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Marietta area’s manufacturing industry employed 152,800 workers during March, according to the United States Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics. This is down from 155,100 workers during February and an 11 percent decrease from last year.
As a whole, Georgia’s manufacturing industry employed 370,800 workers during March, down from 373,300 workers during February and an 11.5 percent decrease from last year.
