Atlanta Manufacturing Jobs Added with Atlanta Fiberglass USA

In one bright spot for Atlanta, whose economy has been declining along with the rest of the nation, a new plant will create more Atlanta manufacturing jobs.

Atlanta Fiberglass USA recently purchased a plant in Washington-Wilkes County. It is currently expected that about 25 workers will be hired at the plant and more positions will be available shortly, according to an article by WJBF. The company specializes in making fiberglass for nuclear plants, computers, surf boards and boats.

“The ultimate goal is to bring manufacturing back to the United States,” Madanjit Oberoi, president of Atlanta Fiberglass USA, said in the article. “We plan to add new facilities in this building here, like weaving and battery separators and also automotive insulation parts.

“I’ve built three fiberglass plants in India,” Oberoi added. “I built a fiberglass plant in Korea and one fiberglass plant in Israel. Most of the innovations and ideas came from the United States whether it was inventing an airplane, whether it’s going to space or coming out with ATM machines.

The few new jobs may add a spark to Atlanta’s declining economy. The Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Marietta area had a total non-farm employment of 2,412,600 workers during December 2008, according to the United States Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics. This is down from 2,421,700 workers during November 2008 and a 3.3 percent decrease from last year.

The Atlanta area’s unemployment rate increased from 6.9 percent during November 7.6 percent during December.
