Atlanta Finance Jobs with Bank of America Could be Relocated

One banking company may relocate several Atlanta finance jobs.

Bank of America Corp. is considering plan to relocate 650 jobs from Atlanta to Charlotte, North Carolina, where the bank is headquartered. The move could be stopped if the company’s building in Atlanta receives a major renovation, according to an article by the Charlotte Business Journal.

BentleyForbes Group, the company that owns Bank of America Plaza in Atlanta, has brought this idea before the Development Authority of Fulton County, asking the authority to offer $567 million in bonds, finance the renovation of Bank of America’s office space and fund the addition of a hotel, restaurants and stores.

The Development Authority was established in 1973 to help bring economic growth and jobs to the county. It has previously helped with other companies’ commercial development projects, such as United Parcel Service Inc., Cousins Properties Inc. and Delta Air Lines Inc.

“Without the proposed renovation of its office space, Bank of America will likely relocate to Charlotte,” an unnamed BentleyForbes attorney said in the article. “The project has the potential to create 550 new jobs while retaining 650 jobs by keeping Bank of America employees in Fulton County.”

Meanwhile, Bank of America is denying the fact that it is considering relocating jobs in Atlanta to Charlotte.

“Bank of America remains wholly committed to the Metro Atlanta area, and any implication that the bank is planning to withdraw from this important market is erroneous,” Britney Sheehan, a media relations manager for Bank of America, said in the article.

“We have more than 150 banking centers and hold office space in a variety of buildings throughout the area to serve the banking convenience of our customers,” Sheehan added. “The status of an individual building, however iconic, has no bearing on our unwavering commitment to this market or our business decisions.”

Bank of America is metro Atlanta’s third-largest bank, with $14 billion in deposits and 162 offices in the area.
